🗓️ DATES FOR THE DIARY
If you want a proper countryside stomp without committing your whole day (or driving into the Peaks), do the Bunbury loop from The Dysart Arms. It’s classic Cheshire: quiet lanes, big fields, and that lovely “I can’t believe this is so close” calm that hits about 10 minutes after you leave the village.
The route swings you out through pastures and farmland with the option to detour via Bunbury Mill – a great little add-on if you’ve got kids (or anyone who likes a “what even is that building?” moment).
Fair warning: this one’s mud-prone after rain and it’s not the most accessible route – there are multiple stiles and you may be sharing fields with livestock, so it’s boots-on, eyes-up, and dogs under proper control.
Then comes the best bit: you finish right back at The Dysart Arms, which Harden’s sums up neatly as an “atmospheric old pub” and a great place to drop by for nice food. Exactly what you want after a January walk.
Practical bits
-
Distance: ~4.3km / ~3 miles (circular)
-
Time: 1-1.5 hours walking (plus pub time, obviously)
-
Difficulty: moderate, mainly due to stiles + muddy fields
-
Terrain: mostly grass pastures; can get very muddy after rain
-
Gates/stiles: includes kissing gates + (reportedly) 11 stiles
-
Dogs: welcome, but take extra care around livestock
-
Start/parking: The Dysart Arms, Bunbury (CW6 9PH) – small car park; overflow in village streets considerately
❤️ Why we love it: It’s a nice “earned your pint” loop with great countryside, a mill detour if you fancy it, then straight back to a cracking pub.
That’s it for this week.
Thanks for reading The Cheshire Buzz! See you next Thursday – same time, same inbox.
