💎 Hidden Gem: The Cloud (Bosley) from Timbersbrook

A small hill with a big-day feel, The Cloud (aka Bosley Cloud, 343m) gives you widescreen views over the Cheshire Plain to Jodrell Bank, Mow Cop and the first folds of the Peak District – yet the whole outing fits neatly into a morning or afternoon.

From the Timbersbrook Picnic Site, you’re on good paths almost immediately, swapping gentle field paths and woodland for a short, satisfying gritstone climb to the trig point.

Follow the Gritstone Trail waymarks from Timbersbrook up through pastures and pines; the final pull is stepped and a touch steep, but it’s brief and well-made. The summit plateau is perfect for a breather and a 360° scan – on clear days, the skyline goes on for miles.

Drop off the top towards Cloudside and loop back on lower meadows and lanes to keep the scenery changing, or simply return the way you came if little legs are flagging.

Underfoot, it’s mostly solid, but can be muddy after heavy rain, so grippy footwear helps. Post-walk, there are plenty of cafes and pubs in Congleton (10 mins drive), or make the most of the picnic area next to the car park for a well-earned treat!

Practical bits

  • Start/Parking: Timbersbrook Picnic Site (near Timbersbrook Road/Weathercock Lane).

  • Distance/Time: 4.5-6km (3-4 miles); 1.5-2 hrs at an easy pace.

  • Ascent/Grade: Moderate with one short, steep section and steps.

  • Terrain: Field paths, woodland tracks, stone flags/steps on the upper slopes; can be muddy.

  • Family/Dogs: Great for families used to short hills; dogs on leads near livestock and during bird-nesting season.

❤️ Why we love it: Big views and very rewarding for the effort – a proper “top-of-the-world” moment for kids – a bite-sized circular walk and a handy picnic site.

That’s it for this week.
