💎 Hidden Gem: Snugbury’s Sunflower Walk & Paddington Bear, Hurleston (near Nantwich)

If the kids have flattened every local park this summer, this is a nice change of scene. Snugbury’s Ice Cream Farm on the A51 just outside Nantwich is home to this year’s straw sculpture: a 45ft Paddington Bear, built from straw, willow and larch shingles, with 1,500 hours of work behind him.

Alongside him, the sunflower field is in bloom, free to walk through with a stem or bunch to buy on the way out. Then it’s straight to the parlour, where Snugbury’s rotate through 35-plus flavours a day, including a marmalade one made in Paddington’s honour. It’s a short, low-effort outing rather than a hike, so it works even with toddlers or reluctant teenagers in tow.

• Where: Snugbury’s Ice Cream Farm, Park Farm, Hurleston, near Nantwich, CW5 6BU (on the A51)

• Distance: Short, a stroll through the sunflower field rather than a proper walk

• Terrain: Flat farm tracks, easy for buggies

• Cost: Free to walk

• Dogs: Well-behaved dogs welcome on leads

• Opening: Daily, 10am-6pm – Go early to beat the queues!!
