🗓️ DATES FOR THE DIARY
If you’re looking for a “switch off the brain” walk, Middlewood Way is one of Cheshire’s best: a long, flat, traffic-free trail running along a former railway line between Macclesfield and Marple – think woodland edges, open cuttings, birdsong, and that satisfying feeling of just moving.
Best bit: it’s brilliant in early March because it’s easy underfoot, you can do it in chunks, and it still feels properly rural even when you’re not far from towns.
Route options
Family-friendly out-and-back: start at a handy access point near Bollington or Macclesfield, stroll 30-60 mins, then turn back (flat, pushchair-friendly in places).
“Proper walk” loop: combine Middlewood Way + Macclesfield Canal for a circular route (two great paths stitched together, loads of variety without any nasty climbs).
Practical bits
-
Surface: mostly firm, good year-round.
-
Navigation: dead easy (it’s a straight old railway line).
-
Bikes: yes – it’s popular, so just keep an ear out.
That’s it for this week.
